I posted a new Apple Tree vlog on the Apple Tree website about sketching with various digital tools for production design and storyboards. Under The apple Tree is a stop-motion animation that's going to be produced using crowd funding techniques. A horror comedy about worms, apples and death. A beautiful bedtime story. A bizarre and fun tale that I wanted to tell since I was a kid.
The second series of This Or That is showing on television:
'KRO Kindertijd' starts every day around 18:00.
Monday, December 12: Drum or guitar Tuesday, December 13: Snake or spider Wednesday, December 14: Photo or painting Thursday, December 15: Witch or ghost Friday, December 16: Snowman or sand castle Saturday, December 17: Pink or blue Sunday, December 18: Mustache or beard Monday, December 19: Cowboy or Indian Tuesday, December 20: Washing dishes or setting the table Wednesday, December 21: Koekhappen or apple turnovers Thursday, December 22: Marbles or skipping Friday, December 23: Confetti or asterisks Saturday, December 24: Drum or guitar Sunday, December 25 Snake or spider
This or That will also be broadcast on the Internet:

India

I was invited by the International Children's Film Festival India to promote my short film Pecker. Of course I will promote Under The Apple Tree as well. The title sounds great when you pronounce it with an Indian accent.
It's not the best time to be an artist in Holland. But I just can't help being a Dutch filmmaker. And I simply couldn't stop myself from writing a great little screenplay (in English) and creating two puppets and a set for a test shot. The result made me decide to put this production officially on my todo list.
Nowadays there are many alternative ways of (crowd)funding a project and raising interest over the internet. I want to put this at the heart of the Apple Tree business model. New territory. And I'd love your help to travel through this territory.
This is going to be a movie that will entertain and thrill you. A horror comedy about worms, apples and death. A beautiful bedtime story. A bizarre and fun tale that I wanted to tell since I was a kid. Please read more on the UTAT-website.
All help in spreading the word by liking, re-tweeting and +1-ing is very welcome.

GREAT!
Wednesday, 17 November 2010 19:11
Today was another THIS OR THAT day. And it was a great day. We shot four episodes instead of three! The crew was outstanding, the kids were adorable, the set was great. We worked hard. And now I'm gonna rock hard with camera operator Shaun. We are going to Helmet. No idea what it is, but he used to rock to Helmet back in New Zeeland. So there. Rock on!
Canon 5D Mark II
Wednesday, 10 November 2010 19:35
Today we shot two episodes of the new THIS OR THAT series with the Canon 5D Mark II camera. In fact, we had two of these camera's running, one was operated through a laptop. The Redrock camera rig was new to us, the whole setup was just a bit more difficult than a standard camcorder. Especially with 10 toddlers running around, a difficult show, and a too tight schedule. So we shot two episodes instead of three. I hope next week we'll shoot four instead of two.
We learned a lot. During the shoot we got into the rhythm, and things really sped up. Everybody worked his or her ass of. It really is a great crew and I want to thank them all. Afterwards we had ourselves a pint or three (instead of two) and discussed what we could improve. So I have high hopes for the next shoot.
I just finished transferring all the shots to harddisk and I must say it look fabulous. I mean: wow. It's a lot of hard work but man, it looks better than every other video cam. And Shaun is doing great, struggling with this new gear, he keeps smiling, even with my hot breath in his neck, and delivers great shots.
I hope that we got all the material we need. I'm not entirely sure that my direction was perfect this time around. Too many things to take care of. Technical stuff, training the crew, carrying cases, slapping around the kids. I really should be sitting in a chair labeled 'director' pointing with my finger, shouting 'action' every now and then. That's all I ever wanted.
Tomorrow we'll start editing and discover how I did.

MAKING PECKER
Tuesday, 30 March 2010 14:39
Still working on PECKER. And Patrick and I are having a great time with it! Hard work is creating beautiful shots. Peter Puntman is helping me out cleaning up shots and removing rigs.
I was asked to design a leader for the Ultra Short series. I hope they like the idea's I came up with.
In May the team and I are visiting FICOMIC in Barcelona. We'll be giving a presentation of our work, focussing on PECKER in particular.
